Ugobe readies Pleo for pre-order, kicks out feature spot
Sure, you've probably seen way more Wowwee robot action in the past few weeks than you ever thought your retinas could stand, but since you persevered, why not give this not-exactly-related family member a few ticks of your time too? Ugobe's Pleo has been a long time coming, and while we've seen a small clip of the dino in action before, now the two-week old Camarasaurus has its very own advertising spot. The video showcases the wee creature's ability to "sense," feel emotions, walk, interact with its environment, and "learn" over time. Furthermore, it looks like the company's previous estimates of a March launch date could be on target after all, as the website now states that pre-order information will be available in four short days. So if you're even pondering picking up an intelligent pet from the Jurassic period that doesn't even need those uber-expensive booster shots, click on through for the marketing hoopla.

I love the half second delay between reactions...
"PLEO!!!"
*pause*
'what?'

umm a good steady video feed would be nice. Pleo feels motion and knows when....... and it cuts off and ends the video. I really trust them now. They can't even get a YT stream to work properly. Robo-Panda will destroy you, while spider-sapien ties it up in pretend webbing. Let the robot domination wars begin and hail to my new robot overlords. Care for a can of oil sir?

I find myself actually wanting to get one of these.... WHY?!?!

When I first saw it walking I thought it looked pretty pathetic and stiff, but the tricks it does make it look like it has a bit wider range of motion than I expected (though it's still not much I suppose) It's kinda cool, but I think it would end up cowering in the back of a dark closet in no time. But...In any case...Long live Littlefoot! haha

The "Read" link goes to their homepage, which makes the following outrageous claim: "THE WORLD'S FIRST LIFE FORM".
Sooo many false "firsts" at CES this year...it appears to have started a trend.

Littlefoot!

For some reason the thing screams CUTE! at me. I feel once we get reactions a bit quicker and smoother motor functions throughout the body, something of this sort would be a nice companion to a dog taught not to bit/tear apart dolls :P

just as it hasn't been mentioned yet, there was an in depth wired article on this bad boy and it actually has quite a bit of kit inside. I'll wait for the final product videos before making a call on it's craptacularness

I work with UGOBE on the PR front and wanted to let you know that this video is from Oct. 2006. It was used with retailers around Toy Fair. It is not representative of the current state of the Pleo prototype. Some more recent video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdOZgt8wb9w&NR. We will release more video of the current Pleo as soon as possible. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at jcrabill@shiftcomm.com. Thanks!
